Conroe law enforcement officials named the man who died following a deadly pedestrian accident on Texas 242 near New Caney last Thursday.

The fatality was identified as Billie Durell McCoy, 55, of Celeste, Texas.

According to initial reports, the incident took place just after 6:00 a.m. on Texas 242 near Lone Star Ranch Drive. Police said McCoy was walking on the shoulder of the road when a tractor trailer that was traveling along the eastbound lane of the road struck him. The force of the impact killed McCoy instantly. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Erik Burse.

Local investigators were called onto the scene to determine the factors that contributed to the crash. There was a low visibility on the road and a vehicle who initially passed by McCoy had to drive around him.

The driver is not charged in the incident.
