At around 1 in the morning on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, a major accident in the area of FM 2818 and George Bush Drive was reported.
Witnesses to the accident claimed that they saw a vehicle lose control, skid off the road, and hit a nearby tree.
There were only two people inside; the passenger suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital while the driver, 19-year-old Houston resident Brian Lockwood, was arrested for intoxication assault.
Car accidents are quite rampant nowadays; according to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, somebody dies from a car accident. There are various types of vehicular accident, and one that is fairly common is a crash where the vehicle leaves the road and hits an inanimate object such as lampposts, buildings, or trees. However, despite the various types of vehicular accidents, it is safe to say that all of them are quite appalling. Nobody deserves to lose their life or have a loved one lose theirs because of a tragic vehicular accident.
Speeding and driving while distracted are two of the common causes of car accidents, but another common one is DUI or driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. According to NHTSA, about 28 people die every day as a result of drunk driving crashes, and in 2010, 10,228 people died in drunk driving accidents — one every 52 minutes — while about 345,000 were injured. The two men of this particular accident just add to this alarming number, and it’s time for something to be done to stop the number from going up.
