China—Melton Sonnier Died Following a Pedestrian Accident on South Broadway

The pedestrian who got struck by a vehicle on South Broadway near US 90 has been identified by local authorities.
The 66-year-old Beaumont resident was named Melton Sonnier. Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson pronounced him dead following the crash.
At about 7:30 p.m. last Wednesday, the fatal collision took place along South Broadway just south of U.S. Highway 90. According to reports, Sonnier was lying on the road on a fetal positing when she was hit by a passing 2004 Hyundai driven. The impact of the collision killed the pedestrian instantly.
The driver and his passenger stayed at the scene. They did not sustain any injury, according to the release.
No charges have been made as investigators are still investigating why Sonnier was lying on the road.
