HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 4-year-old girl was fatally injured Sunday morning in a single-car accident on East Sam Houston Parkway North near Channelview, reports the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the collision occurred in the 4200 block of the parkway (Texas 8 Beltway) at around 4:25 a.m.
A preliminary investigation found a woman was behind the wheel of a gray Infiniti G35X traveling southbound when she failed to stay in her lane. The vehicle swerved to the right of the parkway and struck a traffic control device on the right hand shoulder. The driver lost control of the Infiniti as it continued running south until it slammed into a concrete wall.
The child victim, who had been sitting in the back center seat, was not in a child seat or wearing a seat belt at the time. She was transported to Texas Children’s Hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries.
Authorities said the driver showed signs of impairment at the scene and was later found to have been drunk. She was charged with felony murder in the death of the young girl.
The case is being handled by the HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division.
