Cherokee County — Driver Dies After Losing Control on a Curve

A single vehicle fatal crash occurred on FM 855 in Cherokee County, approximately 2.8 miles south of the city of Cuney, around 11:07 p.m. on Monday night, January 21, 2019.
Preliminary investigation shows that Ronald Gene Fisk Jr., 48, was traveling southbound in his 2001 Ford F-150 on FM 855 at a high speed. The driver then lost his control over the vehicle in a right hand curve, thus skidding to the side and striking a tree on the driver’s side.
Not long after that, Fisk Jr. was pronounced dead.
According to Judge Rodney Wallace, Bullard PD was chasing Fisk, flagging him down for a minor traffic violation, when he sped away, his speed up to 90 mph.
In addition to that, preliminary investigation shows several beer bottles in the car.
It is quite unfortunate to hear of the passing of Ronald Fisk Jr., but it is even more unfortunate to realize that car accidents like this alarmingly common nowadays. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. That can be estimated to be roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
Moreover, studies have shown that the three common causes of car accidents are DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs), speeding, and driving while distracted. The investigation is still ongoing for this particular case, but from the evidence that was gleaned so far, it looks like Fisk falls under two of the causes — DUI and speeding.
