Center Point — 2 Motorcycles Crash at the Wharton-Center Point River Intersection
Posted on Monday, January 28th, 2019 at 10:27 pm
At approximately 1:18 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019, an accident involving two motorcycles occurred at the intersection of Wharton Road and Center Point River Road.
According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Corporal V. Salaz, the two riders were traveling southeast on Wharton Road when all of a sudden, the motorcycle in front stopped abruptly in order to yield for a vehicle traveling east on Center Point River Road. Because of this, the rider of the trailing motorcycle collided into the front motorcycle, and both motorcycles ended up in the middle of Center Point River Road.
One rider was not wearing a helmet during the crash and was flown to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the other rider suffered only non-life-threatening injuries.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the two motorcyclists in this particular accident, though it is great news that one of them was not critically injured. Alas, there are countless other victims who are not as lucky. Motorcycle accidents are fairly common nowadays even though motorcycles are initially believed to be far less crashworthy than closed vehicles because of their design. In fact, according to the NHTSA, 5,286 people died in motorcycle crashes in 2016, the number up by 5.1% from 2015’s 5,029. In the year 2016 as well, motorcyclists were 28 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.
If you are a victim of this kind of accident yourself, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please do not ever hesitate to ask for help. The police will always be there, ready to lend a helping hand to you, but more than that, lawyers specializing in motorcycle accidents are more than willing to help you in protecting your rights and in getting you the justice that you deserve.
