HOUSTON, TX — A 9-year-old boy died Sunday, over a week after a stampede that claimed nine other lives and hurt hundreds at Houston’s Astroworld Festival, according to 6ABC.
The fatal events unfolded during a closing performance by rapper Travis Scott outside NRG Park on Friday, November 5, at around 9:00 p.m.
Authorities said the boy and his father were among the crowd of nearly 50,000 concertgoers when the audience began pushing toward the front of the stage. The boy’s father became unconscious during the stampede, and the boy, who was on his father’s shoulders, was knocked down and trampled on.
The young victim was transported to a hospital and was put on life support after suffering brain swelling and serious damage to his major organs. He later died from his injuries.
Just four days before, 22-year-old Bharti Shahani died from her injuries as a result of the event.
