Bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash on Mykawa and Almeda Genoa Rds

HOUSTON, TX – Authorities discovered the body of a cyclist in a ditch following what they believe to be a hit-and-run crash in southeast Houston early this morning, according to KPRC2.
The collision happened at around 12:30 a.m. on Mykawa Road, near Almeda Genoa Road, when the driver of a northbound Jeep Patriot crashed into a bicyclist. The cyclist was dragged some distance before landing in a ditch.
The driver then fled the scene.
Authorities later received a phone call from a driver who claimed to have struck a deer. Police believe this to be the suspect driver in the collision.
According to KTRK, the suspect, identified as Daniel Martinez, is facing a charge of failing to stop and render aid in a fatal accident.
He was taken into police custody on a $10,000 bond.
