A fatal rollover accident on US 67 in Runnels County caused the death of a Ballinger teenager, Friday evening.

The incident happened at around 8:50 p.m. on US 67 four miles east of Ballinger. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a sports utility vehicle was traveling along the highway when, for reasons that had not yet been determined, it drifted to the right side of the road and continued onto a side skid, struck a fence before landing upside down in a pasture. The impact of the collision ejected a passenger in the process. The victim, identified as a 19-year-old Ballinger female passenger, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was rushed to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo for treatment of her injuries.

Authorities said that the driver was wearing a seat belt.

The crash is under investigation.

We offer our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased victim. May God grant you the strength to go through this difficult time in your life. We believe that the Ballinger Police will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.

In the United States, Texas is one of the leading states in the number of traffic collisions involving fatalities. In fact, in 2015 alone, the state recorded more than 1,300 deaths caused by reckless drivers. Despite the government’s aggressive efforts to keep these cases down, Texas remains the worst state in the country for alcohol-involved car crashes.

If you have been involved in a car accident with a hit-and-run or reckless driver, the first thing you need to do is call the police. Once the investigation is completed, you can file a lawsuit against the suspected driver. A successful case could help you cover your medical expenses and compensate for your emotional and physical suffering. Speak with your personal injury lawyer to know more about your rights to fair compensation.
