HOUSTON, TX – A tow truck driver is facing manslaughter charges following a crash in northwest Houston that led to the death of a baby and the hospitalization of a woman this morning.

According to KTRK, the crash occurred in the 6600 block of Cunningham Road and W Little York Rd at about 10:15 a.m., as the driver of a Nissan sedan was stopped at a red light. The Nissan was then struck by the driver of a tow truck.

An unoccupied sedan being towed by the truck then flipped over and landed in a nearby ditch.

A baby boy between four to seven months in age was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The child’s mother was also hospitalized in undisclosed condition.

The tow truck driver, 39-year-old Jose Luna, remained at the scene and was not injured.

Authorities believe he may have been speeding, and also stated that there was no evidence that Luna braked before the collision occurred.

Luna, who reportedly has prior convictions related to drugs and the sexual assault of a minor, is facing charges of manslaughter in connection with the crash.
