The Austin Police Department has arrested the driver who got into an accident with a pedestrian on Cameron Road last Thursday morning.
According to reports, the incident took place just a few blocks away from Reagan High School, at the cross streets of Reagan Hill Drive and Cameron Road. A woman was attempting to cross Reagan Hill when she was hit by a vehicle making a turn. The driver did not stop and kept going on until it rear-ended another car.
Police had to drag the driver out of his vehicle as he was not cooperating with them. Authorities said that the driver showed signs of intoxication during the arrest. At least two people sustained injuries from the crash. They were identified as Loraine Smith, the pedestrian, and Amanda Mars, the driver involved in the second collision.
Investigation is ongoing. Our sincerest sympathies to the victim of this unfortunate accident. We pray for their full recovery as we hope that the Austin Police Department will do everything to bring those responsible to justice. Drunk driving in Texas commonly result in a serious injury and sometimes, death.
While accidents are fortuitous events that cannot be foreseen, they can be prevented if only drivers had simply put their complete attention on the road and taken their responsibility as drivers more seriously. This is why, despite conscious efforts by the government to combat the increasing number of fatalities and injuries every year, crashes due to negligence is still on the rise. While it can be difficult to remain calm in a situation like this, it is important to know that you can be entitled to compensation and claims following a collision. If you or your loved one has been injured in a car accident caused by a negligent party or a driver under the influence of alcohol, you may have a right to fair compensation for the trauma you experienced and the injuries you have suffered.
