The Austin Police Department is conducting an investigation regarding an auto collision on East Ben White Boulevard in Southeast Austin, early Sunday morning.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred at around 12:15 a.m. at the 4600 block of East Ben White Boulevard, near the Burleson Road intersection. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2012 Nissan Altima was heading west on the roadway when, for reasons that had been determined it struck the rear of a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. The impact of the crash left one person in the Nissan with serious injuries. He was immediately transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

No other injuries were reported at this time.

Local investigators were also dispatched at the scene to gather more information about the case.

We express our deepest condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased victim. May God grant you the strength you need to get through this difficult moment in your life. We strongly believe that authorities will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.

According to statistics, at least one person dies from a car accident every two minutes. Most common causes of Texas car accidents include unsafe lane change, following too closely or tailgating, failing to yield, and speeding. While on the road, it is important to avoid any form of distractions and be completely aware of our surroundings. We have to be reminded of how our choices while behind the wheel can affect other people’s lives.
