A fatal car accident caused the death of a 17-year-old girl on Hasting Avenue, last Sunday, according to a local news source.
Last April 22, Amarillo local officers were called onto the scene to assist in a vehicle collision on Hasting Avenue. Reports said that a sports car was traveling along the roadway when, for yet unknown reasons, it went out of control and drifted off the road. It continued down to the embankment and crashed into the bottom of the overpass.
The impact of the collision killed a female passenger of the vehicle. Its driver, identified only as a 17-year-old male, and another passenger, identified as a 22-year-old occupant, sustained life-threatening injuries from the impact. They were rushed to a local hospital where they received treatment.
An investigation is still in progress but authorities believe that alcohol may have contributed to the incident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of the day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. So that is about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone. Furthermore, the NHTSA also reports that 15% of fatal car accidents happen near intersections while the whopping 85% happen on the open road, which is the case for this particular vehicular accident.
