Alice – Two Women Killed in Fatal Car Accident on US 44

According to Texas Department of Public Safety officials, a solo vehicle accident on State Highway 44 caused the death of two people, Wednesday.
Initial investigation shows that a gray Mitsubishi pickup truck was seen traveling along SH 44 when it suddenly drifted off the roadway. When the driver tried to overcorrect, the truck ended up rolling even, ejecting two occupants from the vehicle. The victims, identified only as a 47-year-old and 76-year-old female occupants, sustained major injuries upon impact. They were pronounced deceased by emergency crews who responded to the scene. It was not confirmed if they were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. He has not yet been identified either.
Local investigators said the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.
