SPRING, TX – Investigators believe that a 17-year-old motorist was intoxicated and speeding at the time of a collision that killed his 18-year-old passenger early Sunday morning, KTRK reports.
A Chevrolet Camaro was speeding north on the Grand Parkway at about 3 a.m. when its 17-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle near Champion Forest Drive. The Camaro struck a street sign and then collided with a concrete wall.
An 18-year-old male passenger was already dead when Harris County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene. Two 13-year-old girls in the back seats were airlifted to an area hospital in critical condition. At least one was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Authorities said the underage driver showed signs of intoxication at the scene. He was also hospitalized in critical condition, and might be charged with intoxication manslaughter. Whoever served him alcohol could also face criminal charges.
