El Paso — Motorcycle-Truck Collision on Interstate 10 East at Airway

On the afternoon of Saturday, January 26, 2019, a crash occurred on Interstate 10 East at Airway in El Paso.
According to the police, the wreck happened at around 12:30 p.m., and it involved a semi-truck and a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
This crash caused the lanes of I-10 to be closed, and it was only around 2 p.m. when they were reopened.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the motorcyclist, and it is even more unfortunate to realize that he is not the first victim of a vehicular accident. Vehicular accidents like this are common in this day and age. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. This can be translated to be roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
An example of a vehicle that gets involved in accidents often is a motorcycle. Motorcycles are initially believed to be far less crashworthy than closed vehicles, but unfortunately, that is not really the case. According to the NHTSA, 5,286 people died in motorcycle crashes in 2016, the number up by 5.1% from 2015’s 5,029. In the year 2016 as well, motorcyclists were 28 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.
Additionally, an accident involving a truck is particularly deadly simply because a tractor-trailer is one of the largest and most dangerous vehicles in the world. In the United States alone, it is estimated that there are more than 2 million tractor-trailers cruising America’s roadways, and every year, they are involved in more than 500,000 accidents. And because of a tractor-trailer’s size, the results of this kind of accident are of course catastrophic, from a severe injury to death.
If you are a victim of this kind of accident yourself, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please don’t hesitate to ask for help. The police will always be there for you, but more than that, lawyers specializing in motorcycle and/or truck accidents are more than willing to help you in protecting your rights and in getting you the justice that you deserve.
