Texas City — 15-Year-Old Hit by Train Along Oak Street

At approximately 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, a 15-year-old high school student died after he was hit by a train in Texas City.
According to authorities, Jason Trevino Jr. was riding his bike along Oak Street, and though the train gave a warning signal before the accident, he tried to cross the tracks. He was eventually struck by the train.
Trevino was then taken to UTMB in Galveston, but unfortunately, he did not make it.
It is unfortunate to hear of the passing of Trevino, and it is even more unfortunate to realize that he is not the first victim whose life is taken by a vehicular accident, particularly a train accident. According to the National Transportation Safety Bureau, nearly every 2 hours, someone or a vehicle is hit by a train in the U.S. Some of the common scenarios in this kind of vehicular accident are derailment, train-train collisions, train-car collisions, train-person collisions, and damage to property.
Studies have shown that nearly 1,000 people die every year in the United States because of a train accident. Additionally, the occurrence and frequency of train accidents has been said to escalate since 1997.
