At approximately 4 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019, there was a power outage on the south side of Corpus Christi following a car accident.
According to Lt. Israel Sosa, an officer with the Corpus Christi Police Department, a speeding vehicle side-swiped another vehicle on Weber Road, just south of Holly Road, and as a result, it immediately lost control. This then caused the car to hit a utility pole, thus leaving the pole sideways and cutting the power of over 1,600 customers.
The female driver of the speeding vehicle was not critically injured, and she was brought to the hospital.
AEP managed to get to the scene and assess the damage to the pole and the power lines.
It is good to hear that the driver was not seriously injured in this accident. Unfortunately, there are countless other victims who are not as lucky as she is. Car accidents like this are fairly common in this day and age. In fact, in a statistics done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and there is always a car accident that results in death every 16 minutes. This can be translated to roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and about 90 people dying in car accidents every day just in the U.S. alone.
Additionally, a particular kind of vehicular accident is an accident in which the vehicle drives off the roadway and hits an inanimate object like a post or a tree. According to statistics, about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car accident, a car would usually crash into a lamppost, a tree, or a building. Post and tree collisions are considered to be generally serious, considering that they comprise 31% of vehicular accident fatalities.
If you are a victim of this kind of accident yourself, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please don’t hesitate to ask for help. The police will always be there for you, but more than that, car accident lawyers are more than willing to help you in protecting your rights and in getting you the justice that you deserve.
