A Tuesday car crash on Highway 290 took the life of one person, according to police.
Austin-Travis County EMS crews responded to a collision on Tara Lane intersection just west of the Y in Oak Hill just before 7:00 a.m. An official from the Department of Public Safety said that an eastbound vehicle, for yet unknown reasons, veered into the westbound traffic and collided with a pickup truck that was carrying a trailer. The pickup truck was already on its side when emergency crews arrived at the scene.
The impact of the collision trapped a man inside his vehicle. He was extracted by local paramedics and rushed to South Austin Medical Center with critical injuries. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead a few moments he was checked in. His identification has not been disclosed.
No other injuries were reported.
Further details on why the vehicle merged into oncoming traffic are yet to be determined. The crash is still under investigation.
