A fatal 5-car accident occurred on the West Loop, near Beechnut Street, around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, January 20, 2019, and it caused the West Loop to be closed for several hours overnight.
The Houston Police claimed that one of the vehicles was a disabled car, with 2 people in it, and it was stalled in the moving lane of traffic. Another vehicle was not able to stop in time, and as a result, it rear-ended the disabled car, thus causing a chain reaction in which 3 more vehicles crashed.
A man inside the disabled car was pronounced dead while a woman in the same car was brought to a hospital with critical injuries.
The police are still trying to determine if alcohol was involved in this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the passing of the unidentified victim, and it is even more unfortunate to realize that he isn’t the first victim whose life is taken away by a car accident. Car accidents are common occurrences nowadays. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. That can be estimated to roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
In addition to this, the NHTSA also reports that intersections/near intersections comprise 15% of fatal car accidents while open roads comprise 85%. This latter seems to be the case for this particular vehicular accident.
If you are a victim of a car accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please don’t hesitate to ask for help. The police will always be there to help you, but more than that, car accident lawyers are always willing to help you in protecting your rights and getting you the justice that you deserve.
