A hit-and-run accident occurred in northeast Houston on Saturday night, January 19, 2019, and the police are actively searching for the driver responsible for the said accident.
According to the Houston Police Department, the crash happened around 8 in the evening, and the unidentified male victim was struck in the 9300 block of Tidwell Road.
The driver did not stop to render aid to the pedestrian, the police claimed, and the Houston Police Vehicular Crimes Division is actively working on this case.
Car accidents are a serious problem in this day and age, and yet they still happen quite often. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. That is roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
A particular kind of car accident, a hit-and-run accident, is especially appalling, and no one should have to mourn a loved one because of this. Alas, hit-and-run accidents are actually common occurrences nowadays. According to a study done by roadside-assistance giant AAA, 2,049 hit-and-run deaths happened in 2016 — the highest annual total on record — and in the decade that led up to that peak, there were about 682,000 crashes that occurred each year in which the driver fled the scene.
Texas is reported to be the 8th worst state for hit-and-run fatalities, a fact that is terrifying and needs to be changed.
