Marshall — One Man Dead, Three Injured, After Vehicle Hits Tree

At around 1 in the morning on Saturday, January 12, 2019, a car crashed into a tree on 43 South near Grangeway Road.
According to Marshall Fire, the 4-door passenger car had left the road and hit a nearby tree. The Jaws of Life were used to remove 4 trapped occupants from the car.
Two were taken to a Marshall hospital, and one was taken to LSU with potentially serious injuries. However, one man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The status of the remaining 3 taken to the hospital is currently unknown as the DPS is still investigating the incident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the passing of one of the victims, but car accidents like this are quite common in this day and age. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. So that is roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
According to statistics, about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car accident, a car would usually crash into a lamppost, a tree, or a building. Lamppost and tree collisions are considered to be generally serious, considering that they comprise 31% of vehicular accident fatalities.
