El Paso – Auto versus Pedestrian Accident on South Kansas Street

A 72-year-old man was pronounced deceased after a fatal collision involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV), Monday morning.

According to the report, the incident took place at the 500 block of South Kansas Street. A pedestrian was trying to cross the roadway, on a designated crosswalk, when a passing black Suburban struck him. The force of the impact left the pedestrian with fatal injuries. He was immediately taken to University Medical Center where he was declared deceased. His identity was withheld pending notification of his immediate family.

The driver of the Suburban was identified as 26-year-old Steven Uribe. Police said Uribe stopped at the intersection but failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian resulting in the crash. It is not confirmed if he will be facing any charges.

An investigation is underway.
