Stanton – 1 Died Following Car Accident on Interstate 20

A fatal vehicle collision on Interstate 20 caused the death of one person, early Sunday morning.
Just after 2:00 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety officials were called onto the scene to assist in a crash on Interstate 20, one mile west of Stanton. According to the initial investigation, a Kia Sorento was heading on the opposite side of the road when it collided with an 18-wheeler truck that was traveling along the eastbound lanes. The impact of the crash instantly killed the driver of the Sorento. He was later identified as 83-year-old Robert Hughes of Kingman, Arizona. Hughes was not restrained by a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Fortunately, the two occupants in the truck were not injured.
The Stanton Police Department is still determining why Hughes was driving on the wrong side of the highway. An investigation is ongoing.
