El Paso – Teenage Boy Died in Two-Vehicle Accident on Mesa Street

A two-car crash on Mesa Street resulted in the death of a teenage boy and injuries of three people on Mesa Street, Saturday night.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred at around 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of Mesa and Festival Drive. A Mercedes vehicle has been traveling at an unsafe speed when it collided with another car that was leaving an apartment complex. The impact of the crash killed the 16-year-old passenger in the Mercedes. He was identified as Jose Roberto Prieto–a junior student at Coronado High School.
The 18-year-old driver of the Mercedes sustained non-life threatening injuries and was sent to University Medical Center for treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of the second car was also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Their identifications have not been released yet.
Authorities said two occupants in Mercedes fled the scene even before responding officers arrived at the scene.
An investigation is underway.
