Cameron County – Two-Vehicle Accident on FM 510 Kills 1

A woman was pronounced deceased after a fatal auto crash on Farm to Market Road 510 in Cameron County, Tuesday afternoon.
According to initial reports, the incident took place at around 12:34 p.m. on FM 510 near Casey Road in San Benito area. A gold 2001 Lincoln Navigator was heading west on the highway when it went out of control upon approaching a curve. The Lincoln then drifted into the opposing lanes where it collided head-on with a withe 2008 Toyota Corolla.
A passenger in the Toyota sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Valley Baptists Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. She was identified as Hermelinda Villegas, 57.
Authorities did not confirm the number of casualties but reports said that the remaining occupants in both vehicles were hospitalized for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not immediately disclosed.
No charges have been made as the investigation is still in progress.
