A multi-vehicle accident on 9th Avenue sent a child to a hospital with serious injuries, last Monday morning, according to a local news source.
In the report released by Amarillo Police Department, the accident occurred at the intersection of 9th Avenue and Loop 335. A vehicle had been traveling along the westbound lane of 9th Avenue when, for yet unknown reasons, it entered the opposing lanes of Loop 335 prompting a chain-reaction crash. A preliminary investigation shows that the first vehicle failed to yield the right of way which may have played a role in the accident.
The force of the impact ejected a toddler, identified only as a nine-year-old child, in one of the vehicles. He sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. It was not determined if the child was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
No other injuries were reported.
APD is determining liability. The investigation is still in progress.
