Fannin – Pregnant Mother, Son Died in Collision with DUI Driver on SH 11

A drunk driving crash on State Highway 11 in Fannin County killed a mother and her son last August 30th, Friday.
The fatalities were identified as Juana Alvarez, 25, and her son Lucas Alvarez, 2.
According to reports, the victims were occupants in a pickup truck that was traveling along the eastbound lanes of Highway 11. A westbound truck was also traveling on the highway when, for yet unknown reasons, it veered into the eastbound lanes and crashed into Alvarez’s car. The impact of the collision killed the mother and son instantly. Meanwhile, Alvarez’ husband sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a McKinney hospital for treatment.
A child passenger in the second vehicle also sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas for medical treatment. His condition was not released.
Local investigators are still determining if alcohol played a role in the accident.
