Liberty County – Train Crash on FM 1960 Leaves 19 Injured

Several people sustained various injuries after an 18-wheeler truck collided with a train on Farm to Market Road 1960, Friday afternoon.
According to Liberty County police officials, the accident happened Friday afternoon at FM 1960 and CR 621. A New Orleans-bound Amtrak train heading from Los Angeles was approaching said cross streets when it struck an 18-wheeler truck, splitting it in half. The force of the impact caused two front wheels of the train to come off the tracks but it didn’t derail, a representative of Amtrak said.
At least 19 people were hurt from the crash–eight of them suffered minor injuries including the driver of the truck. No crew members were injured.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the train was carrying 70 passengers during the time of the accident.
No identification has been released at this time.
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined.
