Shelby County has named the Tenaha man who died in a fatal car accident on US 96, just north of Center, Thursday morning.
Just after 11:00 a.m., DPS troopers were requested to assist in a solo-car accident on US 96 in Shelby County. Based on the initial investigation, a southbound Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling along the highway when, for reasons that had not yet been determined, it drifted to the right. When the driver tried to go back to the road, the car ended up overturning across the highway. The impact of the collision killed the driver instantly. He was later identified as Dennis Jackson from Tenaha by a Shelby County Justice of the Peace.
No one else was injured, as per responding officers.
Local investigators are still determining the reason why Jackson lost control of the car.
We express our deepest condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased victim. May God grant you the strength you need to get through this difficult moment in your life. We strongly believe that authorities will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.
Some of the deadliest counties for car accidents in Texas are Harris, Dallas, and Tarrant. Among the 620,000 reported fatalities and injuries in the state, more than 4,000 cases were caused by a driver traveling at an unsafe speed. Meanwhile, operators who tested positive for some type of drug are responsible for more than 500 cases that resulted in injuries. Following a fatal accident, it is important to be familiar with the rights you are entitled to. If you or your loved one is a victim in an accident caused by inattentive actions of another driver or other entity, you may have the right to file for compensation. In times like this, you would need a professional who can provide you with all the support you need as you go through this difficult time.
