Wilmer – Alejandro Chavez Killed in Fiery Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 45

The Wilmer Police Department is investigating a vehicle collision which killed one person and injured two more people on Interstate 45, last Friday morning.
At around 4:00 a.m., a two-car crash took place along northbound lanes of I-45 at Pleasant Run. According to initial reports, a Chevrolet sedan was seen traveling on the opposite side of the road when it collided with a Lexus. The impact of the collision seriously injured the driver of the Lexus. His passenger, identified as 19-year-old Alejandro Chavez, was pronounced dead by emergency crews who responded to the scene.
The wrong-way driver, identified as Jay’la Sherley, 23, of Lancaster, was also taken to Baylor University Medical Center. The name of the other victim has also not been released.
Local investigators arrived at the scene to determine liability.
