Austin – Man Struck and Killed by Car on South Congress Avenue

The Austin Police Department is investigating a vehicle collision on South Congress Avenue which caused the death of a 45-year-old man, Friday night.
According to initial reports, an auto versus pedestrian crash took place at 7300 block of South Congress Avenue, a couple of blocks south of William Cannon Drive, at around 8:18 p.m. A man was attempting to cross the street when a 2001 white Chrysler Sebring that was traveling along the northbound lane struck him. The force of the impact seriously injured the male pedestrian. He was pronounced dead by emergency crews who responded to the scene.
It was not immediately clear if the driver stayed at the scene after the incident. His identification has not been released at this time.
