Van Zandt County – 19-year-old Como Driver Died in Auto Collision on SH 19

The Department of Public Safety has released the name of the male driver who died in a car accident on State Highway 19, north of the city of Canton.
The fatality was identified Nicholas Stone Richardson, 19, of Como.
According to initial reports, the collision took place on SH 19 near County Road 1103. Richardson was driving a 2011 Buick Enclave along the southbound lanes of the highway when it struck the rear side of a 2016 Mack garbage truck. Police said that Richardson was not able to negotiate its speed when the garbage truck slowed down to give way for the school bus which was letting students off.
As a result, Richardson died from the injuries sustained in the collision. He was pronounced dead by emergency crews who responded at the scene. Fortunately, the driver of the garbage truck was not injured.
An investigation is underway.
