A tragic truck collision on Highway 6 caused the death of a College Station woman, last Friday at around 4:45 p.m.
College Station emergency crews responded to the scene of the crash on Texas 6 South near the University Drive overpass. Based on an initial investigation, a tractor-trailer was traveling along the highway when, for yet unknown reasons, it crashed into a median. The trailer attached to the truck landed on top of the cab, killing its passenger in the process. She was only identified as a 45-year-old woman.
The driver, whose identification has not been released, was severely injured. He was taken to a hospital by a helicopter. His condition was not immediately disclosed.
The north and southbound lanes of Highway 6 remained closed for several hours.
An investigation is underway.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased victim.
In the United States, Texas is one of the leading states in the number of traffic collisions involving fatalities. In fact, in 2015 alone, the state recorded more than 1,300 deaths caused by reckless drivers. Despite the government’s aggressive efforts to keep these cases down, Texas remains the worst state in the country for alcohol-involved car crashes.
