Lamesa – Teen dies in a crash on Highway 87

A tragic car accident took the life of a Colorado Springs teenager on Highway 87 north of Lamesa, Sunday.
According to reports, the fatal accident took place at around 7:00 a.m. Texas patrol officers said that a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling on the southbound lanes of Highway 87 when, for unknown reasons, it veered off the roadway. When the driver attempted to go back to the road, the SUV then overturned.
One of the passengers in the vehicle died from the impact. He was only identified as a 16-year-old boy from Colorado Springs. The other five occupants were taken to a hospital with injuries. They were identified as Rudy Salazar, an 11-year-old boy, a 10-year-old girl, and two 8-year-old boys. The Texas Highway Patrol was requested to the scene to assist in the clearing of the site. They said that only the driver was wearing a seat belt during the time of the accident.
How the crash took place remains unknown as investigators are still gathering information.
