Man dies after single-car crash near Houston’s Villa De Matel Convent

HOUSTON, TX — A 58-year-old man died Tuesday, days after a single-vehicle collision near Villa De Matel Convent in southeast Houston’s Lawndale/Wayside area, according to Houston Police Department.
Authorities said the fatal accident happened at 6510 Lawndale Street on Thursday, January 13, at approximately 11:50 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the man was behind the wheel of a gray Ford Explorer going westbound when the SUV veered into the eastbound lanes and went through a fence and bushes on the roadway’s south side. First responders arrived to find the vehicle at rest on the nearby convent’s private property.
The victim suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, where he died five days later on January 18.
An investigation by HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division remains ongoing.
