Pecos County – Head-on Crash on Highway 285

The Pecos County Police Department is still investigating a car accident on Highway 285, near Sanderson, a local news source says.

According to initial reports, responding officers were dispatched 30 miles northwest of Sanderson after receiving a call reporting a head-on crash on Highway 285. A preliminary investigation shows that a vehicle towing a semi-trailer was traveling along the northbound lanes when, for yet unknown reasons, it collided with a vehicle heading south.

The impact of the collision killed the driver of the southbound vehicle. He was identified as Austin Jordan. Meanwhile, the driver of the other vehicle was rushed to Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Fort Stockton for treatment. He was later identified by authorities as Concepcion Matute, a 57-year-old resident of Hot Springs.

Details surrounding the collision are unclear at this time. The investigation is underway.
