HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A woman was killed and two children were injured Wednesday night when their car collided with an HPD patrol unit in Houston’s Northside, according to NBC News.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal crash came to involve at least seven vehicles shortly before 11:00 p.m.
An early investigation indicates a sheriff’s deputy was in a police cruiser with his lights and sirens on while pursuing a robbery suspect eastbound. At an intersection, he collided with a black vehicle, whose driver fled the scene.
The woman, who was a passenger in the black vehicle, died as a result of her injuries.
Two children believed to be aged 5 and 2 were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical and stable conditions, respectively.
Bystanders were able to pull the deputy from the cruiser in stable condition, and three other people suffered minor injuries in related crashes.
Multiple investigations were underway by Houston police, the sheriff’s office, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
