HOUSTON, TX — A 23-year-old man died Thursday evening after a teen driver crashed a car and fled the scene in Houston’s Trinity/Houston Gardens area, reports Houston Police Department.
The fatal collision occurred in the 4700 block of Kelley Street at around 6:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation shows a tan Mercury Grand Marquis was going eastbound when its driver, an 18-year-old woman, lost control of the vehicle. The Mercury then crashed into a median before hitting a tree with its passenger side.
The victim, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
The teen driver and a 20-year-old female passenger in the backseat both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said the driver fled the scene but was located by police shortly after. She was taken into custody and is now charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 178th State District Court.
