Man dies after crash with HPD unit in Houston’s Independence Heights

HOUSTON, TX — A man was killed Sunday when his car collided with an Houston Police Department unit SUV in north Houston’s Independence Heights area, reports KENS5.

The accident occurred in the 4600 block of North Shepherd Drive near Curtin Street at approximately noon.

Houston police said an officer was driving northbound in a marked vehicle when a Cadillac made a turn in front of him, causing the fatal collision.

The driver of Cadillac died from his injuries at the scene, confirmed authorities.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office and HPD are both expected to carry out separate investigations into the accident.
