HOUSTON, TX — A man was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday night after running across a street in Houston’s Northside/Northline area, reports Houston Police Department.
HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the incident took place in the 5800 block of Airline Drive at about 5:50 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the victim darted into the roadway to try to cross the road, prompting one northbound vehicle to brake suddenly to avoid hitting him. The driver of a white Ford pickup truck behind the stopped vehicle then veered to the left to avoid colliding with the car. The pickup entered the turning lane and struck the pedestrian, who was waiting to cross the southbound lanes.
The victim was transported by Houston Fire medics to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities said the driver of the pickup remained at the scene and did not exhibit signs of intoxication. They were released after questioning.
An investigation remains in progress, and no charges have been filed as of this writing.
