Pedestrian lying on roadway killed by commercial van near east Katy

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A woman died Monday morning after being run over by a vehicle while lying down on Fry Road near east Katy, reports the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the incident took place in the 1300 block of the road, near the Katy Freeway, at around 4:41 p.m.

According to the HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division, a white 2017 Ram Prostar City commercial van was traveling southbound when its male driver saw the woman lying the roadway ahead and attempted to swerve out of the way. The driver was unable to maneuver the van in time and the van struck the pedestrian.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver cooperated with responding officers and was not suspected of impairment.

No further information has been released on why the woman was in the roadway, but an investigation was underway.
