Driver dies after car crashes, catches fire on Eastex Fwy near Humble

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — One person was killed early Sunday in a high-speed single-vehicle collision on Eastex Freeway near Humble, reports KHOU11.
The crash happened in the southbound freeway approaching Rankin Road at about 3:30 a.m.
According to authorities, the victim was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla traveling at high speed when they tried to take the exit and lost control of the car. The vehicle slammed into an exit sign and a guard rail before crashing into a light pole. Moments later, the car became engulfed in flames.
Bystanders broke a window on the car in an effort to pull the driver out of the burning car, but were not able to rescue them.
Shortly after Humble Fire crews put out the flames, medics pronounced deceased the victim dead at the scene.
Authorities have not disclosed further details on the fatal crash.
