Bicyclist killed in collision involving DUI driver near NW Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A man died early Monday after being hit by a suspected drunk driver while riding a bicycle near Sylvester Turner Park in northwest Houston, reports Click2Houston.
Houston police said the incident occurred in the 2800 block of West Little York Road, in the city’s Acres Homes area, at around 2:30 a.m.
According to authorities, the cyclist was riding with lights on in the far right lane of the road when he was struck by a speeding Toyota pickup truck. After hitting the cyclist, the pickup continued running off the roadway and collided with a pole at a nearby apartment complex.
The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed authorities.
The driver and a female passenger in the pickup were taken to local hospital with undisclosed injuries, but were said to be in stable condition.
Police said the driver will be charged with intoxication manslaughter after responding officers observed the occupants showing signs of impairment at the scene.
