Woman dies after being hit by car near north Houston shopping center

HOUSTON, TX — A woman was killed Wednesday afternoon when a driver ran her over in a parking lot near Houston’s Independence Heights area, according to ABC13.
Authorities said the crash happened in the 4400 block of North Freeway, near East Crosstimbers Street, at approximately 2:45 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates a man was behind the wheel of a moving vehicle when he ran over a woman, who authorities believe was homeless. The woman had been seated in a “meditative position” at the time she was run over by the vehicle’s back wheel.
Houston Fire Department crews confirmed the victim died from her injuries at the scene.
Authorities said the driver, who was with his 10-year-old son at the time, cooperated with an investigation at the scene.
No further details have been released at this time, but the driver was expected to be evaluated for impairment.
