Three hospitalized after car crashes into cyclists on FM 787 near Rye

LIBERTY COUNTY, TX — Three people were critically injured Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle while bicycling along Farm to Market Road 787 near Rye, reports KHOU11.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a group of bicyclists were participating in an annual organized ride when they were struck by a Ford Focus going eastbound on the road at 11:00 a.m.
Authorities said two cyclists were airlifted to Beaumont’s St. Elizabeth Hospital and another was transported to a Kingwood hospital. No information on their conditions have been disclosed.
It was not immediately clear whether any arrests were made in connection to the event.
The case is being handled by the Texas DPS with support from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
