Driver attempts to leave scene of rollover crash that killed 5-year-old

HOUSTON, TX – A driver allegedly tried to walk away from a crash on the Southwest Freeway that led to the death of a 5-year-old child early this morning, according to KHOU.
The crash occurred on the Southwest Freeway feeder road and Fountain View at about 3:30 a.m., when the driver of a silver BMW ran a red light.
The BMW collided with a maroon Nissan, and the impact caused the Nissan to overturn.
A 5-year-old child riding in the overturned vehicle was taken to the hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the BMW, a man about 25 years old who is thought to have been under the influence, reportedly attempted to walk away from the accident. He was detained by a group of witnesses at the scene until the police arrived.
He was then taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, the child’s father, was not reported as injured.
The driver is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in connection with the crash. Hit-and-run charges may also be forthcoming.
