The teenage girl who died following a car accident on 64th Street has been identified, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The fatality was named Marla Isaias-Chavez. She was a 17-year-old resident from Odessa.
At around 1:20 p.m., a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling along the westbound lane of 64th Street when it ran a red light at the intersection near Moss Avenue. The Silverado then crashed into a 2018 Dodge Charger that had entered the intersection.
The impact of the collision injured several occupants from both vehicles. They were rushed to a local hospital for treatment, including Marla Isaias-Chavez.
Isaias-Chavez, who was reportedly driving the Dodge Charger during the time of the crash, was pronounced dead last Tuesday at Medical Center Hospital where she was checked in. Her passenger was also listed in the same hospital and is expected to recover.
The crash remains under investigation.
With sincerest sympathies, we would like to express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. We strongly believe that the Odessa Police Department will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.
Texas is among the states in the US that have the most car accidents which involved injuries and fatalities every year. Some of the common factors contributing to the rising cases of collisions in the area include the worsening traffic situation, weather conditions, and poor driving habits.
Bad driving habits are the greatest cause of a fatal crash. It can be lethal to the person behind the wheel, as well as the drivers on the road. Drivers who do not use their signal to change lanes or those who do not secure their blind spots before shifting direction are more likely to be involved in an accident. Some of the most dangerous driving habits include speeding, unsafe lane change, tailgating, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you or someone you love has been a victim of a car accident with a negligent driver, you have a right to fair compensation for the trauma you experienced and the injuries you have suffered.
