Young woman killed in crash on the East Freeway

HOUSTON, TX – A young woman was killed in a crash on the East Freeway on the morning of Sunday, February 28, according to the Houston Police Department.
Authorities say a 23-year-old woman was driving a grey Chevrolet Malibu near 9300 East Freeway when the vehicle strayed from its lane and struck a Texas Department of Transportation sign. Her car then drove into a nearby wooded area and hit multiple trees.
Both occupants of the Malibu were taken to the hospital immediately after the incident. The driver, the 23-year-old woman, died of her injuries. The passenger, a male of the same age, is reported to be in stable condition.
An investigation into the crash remains open.
