Mother killed, 5 people injured when wheel flies off pickup truck in New Caney

NEW CANEY, TX – A mother was killed, and five people, including her teenage son, were injured after a wheel flew off a pickup truck in the New Caney area on Thursday.
According to KHOU, the crash occurred on I-69 at about 7 p.m., when 2004 Dodge pickup truck lost a wheel, then collided with a white 2014 GMC pickup truck, which contained a mother and her son on their way home from his basketball games.
The GMC then collided with another vehicle containing a father and three children.
The mother, whose identity was not immediately released, died instantly.
Five other people, including her teen son, sustained undisclosed injuries.
The driver of the Dodge pickup was able to safely stop his vehicle after losing a wheel.
Authorities are asking those with any information on the crash to come forward. The investigation continues at this time.
